The Clinical Laboratory Services Department provides quality laboratory services for inpatients, registered outpatients from Dryden and surrounding areas, and referred-in testing.
The Laboratory assists the health care provider in the delivery of patient care by providing consultative services, procurement and testing to investigate and for monitor illness or to identify a state of wellbeing. Clinical Laboratory Services consists of Hematology, Biochemistry, Transfusion Medicine, Laboratory Specimen Procurement and Dispatch (Central Receiving/Phlebotomy), Cardiac Stress Testing and Cardiac Holter Monitoring.
The laboratory is a member of the Kenora-Rainy River Regional Lab Program which allows the laboratory to work together efficiently with other labs in the northwest region to maximize human resources, supplies and testing and to facilitate the building of a solid Quality Management system.
The hospital laboratory is accredited by the Ontario Laboratory Accreditation and Accreditation Canada and meets the standards of the Quality Management Program Laboratory Services of the Ontario Medical Association.
There are six technologists and two technicians to provide laboratory service 24 hours a day, either on-site or on-call. During non-regular hours of operation, weekends and statutory holidays there is a skeleton staff to cover those inpatient procedures considered essential to manage the acutely ill patient and emergency outpatients.
