The Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking to fill the following position with a highly motivated, team-orientated professional:
Full Time Mental Health Therapist/Oncology and
Palliative Care Support
This role focuses on providing dedicated mental health support to individuals and families navigating oncology treatment or end-of-life care within the hospital. The Mental Health Therapist works closely with patients and their loved ones, offering therapeutic support through approaches such as mindfulness, grief counseling, and other evidence-based psychotherapy models. This meaningful role supports patients during some of the most vulnerable moments of their lives.
Responsibilities:
- Provide compassionate, client-centered mental health support to patients undergoing oncology treatment or receiving palliative care, as well as to their families
- Conduct assessments and develop individualized care plans to address emotional, psychological, and psychosocial needs
- Deliver evidence-based therapeutic interventions, including mindfulness practices, grief counseling, and other appropriate psychotherapy models
- Support patients and families in coping with diagnosis, treatment, progression of illness, and end-of-life processes
- Collaborate closely with the interdisciplinary healthcare team to ensure integrated and coordinated care
- Participate in case conferences, care planning meetings, and discharge planning as required
- Maintain accurate and timely clinical documentation in accordance with organizational and professional standards
- Provide education and resources to patients, families, and staff regarding mental health and coping strategies
- Contribute to quality improvement initiatives within the oncology and palliative care programs
- Adhere to professional ethical standards and hospital policies and procedures
Qualifications:
- Degree in Social Work/Psychology/Psychiatric Nursing or related discipline
- Must have current registration with the appropriate college eg. (RP, SW, RN OT)
- Three to five years' experience in mental health counselling
- Sound knowledge and understanding in relationship and family counselling, chronic disease management, stress management, mental illness, trauma and best practices and evidenced based approach
- Training in suicide intervention (ASIST)
- Effective organizational and written skills
- Superior ability to work and manage a case load independently and liaise with other multi-disciplinary members to advocate for client needs
- Valid Ontario Driver's License
- Proven attendance record
- Proficient computer skills
- Able to perform the essential duties of the job
- Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Dryden Regional Health Centre's Code of Conduct and Standards of Behaviour

- Proof of full Covid-19 vaccination status to be presented prior to hire
