The Dryden Regional Health Centre is seeking to fill the following position:


Permanent Part-Time

Registered Practical Nurse

Central Supply and Receiving/ Operating Room Technician

The RPN- CSR/ORT provides an environment that ensures all critical requirements of decontamination, sterilizing, wrapping, packaging, servicing, issuing and storage of all sterile and non-sterile items processed or stored within the hospital. They are a member of the nursing staff who provides high level of comprehensive care to meet the needs of the patient and participates in the assessment, planning, implementation and evaluation all patients requiring surgical intervention on an ongoing basis.

Responsibilities:

  • Utilize strict sterile techniques, the RPN- CSR/ORT assists the surgical team by providing them with instrumentation and other sterile supplies
  • Anticipate the needs of the surgical team and ensures the safety and security of the patient by utilizing appropriate procedures.
  • Contribute to the surgical procedure and the safety and security of the patient, by performing pre-operative, operative and post-operative duties
  • Assist the anesthetist in preparing equipment and inducing anesthesia
  • Maintain CNO Standards of Practice
  • Collection, Decontamination, Disinfection and Sterilization
  • Prepare packs and linen supplies
  • Maintenance of Clean Supply Rooms and Quality Control
  • Maintain adequate inventory of medical and surgical supplies
  • Provide health teaching to the clients and their families
  • Transcribe and carries out physicians orders
  • Perform wound dressings, wound packing as per policy, suture and/or staple removal
  • Perform cast removals, application of air casts, basic splinting, sling application, fitting patients for crutches
  • Administer IV meds as per CNO guidelines and DRHC policies and Procedures
  • Initiate, maintains, and discontinues IV therapy
  • Document pertinent information to ensure continuity of patient care and to meet legal requirements
  • Function as a preceptor for students and helps orientate new staff to the department
  • Assist physician with procedures as needed

Requirements:

  • Current Certificate of competence from the College of Nurses of Ontario
  • Current BLS
  • Operating Room Technician Certificate or equivalent experience as a scrub nurse in an operation room
  • CSAO Certificate required
  • Medication Administration and I.V. Therapy Course
  • Must be able to be on standby and meet response times for call backs
  • Good Physical health
  • Demonstration of strong nursing practice, skill and judgment
  • Must possess excellent interpersonal skills including superior verbal communication abilities
  • Must be able to work in a team-oriented environment
  • Demonstrated critical thinking, leadership and mentoring skills
  • Demonstrates behaviours consistent with Dryden Regional Health Centre's Code of Conduct and Standards of Behaviour
  • Able to perform the essential duties of the job
  • Willing to work flexible hours, including days, evenings and weekends
  • Demonstrates DRHC Core Values; Accountability, Integrity, Humility, Compassion and Respect
  • Proof of COVID vaccination to be presented prior to hire

This is a union position. Compensation will be as per the Collective Agreement starting at $36.55/hr. plus up to 11% in lieu of benefits. Applicants are requested to forward a completed resume and cover letter to; hr@drhc.on.ca
