MEDIA RELEASE: DRYDEN REGIONAL HEALTH CENTRE RESUMING SERVICES

June 11, 2020

DRYDEN - While the spread of COVID-19 continues to be a challenge, it is now possible for hospitals to begin a gradual resumption of services.

Following approval by the Northwestern Health Unit and Ontario Health North, and under the direction of the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Dryden Regional Health Centre will slowly and thoughtfully re-introduce services that were suspended by the government earlier this year in March.

Beginning the week of June 15, 2020, clinical services including physiotherapy and occupational therapy, diagnostics, general surgery, primary care, mental health and addictions, and anaesthesia clinics will follow a phased-in reintroduction incorporating all Ministry guidelines and recommendations for a safe restart. The further phase-in of specialty surgeries and services including orthopaedics, gynaecology, plastics, otolaryngology, and rheumatology may occur later in summer.

Recovery decisions are guided by principles of fairness, equity and transparency. In addition, levels of hospital capacity, Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) supplies, and staffing are constantly being monitored to ensure the ability to safely meet our community's healthcare needs.

Whenever and wherever possible, the DRHC will continue to reach out and provide virtual care to our patients and clients. Individuals who have been patiently waiting for in-person service will be contacted directly by the DRHC to book appointments.

As we prepare to reopen services, it is more important than ever to follow public health recommendations. Everyday actions to reduce exposure and protect people's health, such as physical distancing, frequent hand washing, wearing masks, visitor restrictions, and staying home when ill, continue to be crucial in our fight against COVID-19.

The support we have received from individuals, businesses, and services during these challenging times has been inspiring and aspiring. As we move forward, the ongoing cooperation of our community is appreciated.
