Telestroke: what can it mean for me and my family?
The DI department works with the Emergency department team in the Telestroke program. Telestroke is an emergency service of the Ontario Telemedicine Network (OTN), designed to assist emergency room physicians in rural hospitals. Specialists assess patients via videoconference equipment to determine whether it is safe to give a patient who is experiencing the symptoms of a stroke a blood-clot busting drug. (TPa) Patients who present to the ED with symptoms must have a CT scan within 3 hours of the first sign of a stroke.
